Poutine
- S C
I think that your site must be outdated as I am from Alberta and I can find poutine in many restaurants, so it is not only found in Quebec.- Ron Desjardins rdesjardins@simcoe.net
Well are we living in the dark ages! Poutine is found across Canada including my establishment (RON'S CHIP FACTORY) IN Elmvale Ontario. In fact I sell about 500 to 600 lbs of french fries made into Poutine each week. Also your statement that any Cheese can be used is not correct. Poutine is made with white Cheese Curd only and of cource the proper sauce.People using motzerella and the likes are not making Real Poutine!!!!!I suggest that you do a little more reasearch before you speak.- Todd
For those of you following the instructions of this recipe you won't be able to experience real poutine this way. Poutine is not poutine unless everything is followed in my description below. I am from Alberta, Canada and I lived in Jonquiere Quebec for 4 months and I ate a lot of Poutine there. It is really good if it is done right. First of all it is very important that you have the right sauce. It should say poutine sauce sauce on the can. Hot chicken sauce is an acceptable alternative but never just ordinary chicken gravy and never ever beef or other gravies. Never ever. The best brand is St. Hubert I dont know if it is available outside Canada but I am sure you can order it somewhere. The cheese is the most important thing though. It has to be made of cheese curds. That is a form of cheese in an early development stage. Also, you know if you have the right cheese if it squeaks when you cut it this might sound a little rediculise but trust me on this one. Also when you chew it raw it must squek too. Put the cheese on the fries and then boil the sauce until it is really hot. Pour it on. If the sauce is hot enough it will melt the cheese but not completely the cheese curds should be soft and easy to chew and no longer as squeaky but never completely melted. If you follow these instructions you will be amazed by how good it is.
