That part was still kept in tradition when other planets started playing. Then, after that, things got tricky. KZ (Kalfoon Zeta, see above) felt that CTF (Capture the Flag, also see above) was also meant as an excuse to destroy your fellow man in the interest of sport. Thats where everyone else felt the line should be drawn. Unfortunatley, everyone thought differently on which was the line should be drawn, and how thick it was, so as a result there are now three major types of CTF played in the galaxy. Lunarian CTF, Earth CTF (this is the only thing known that the Earth is really famous for, and not that many people adhere to their rules anyway, so...) and Tangential CTF. In Lunarian CTF, flags were long ago replaced my magical replicas of flags, that enhance the carriers strength. The idea in Lunarian CTF is to "kill" your opponents and keep them from getting your flag. You score a kill when you succesfully cast a spell agains your opponent. He/She then teleports back to the base and starts all over again, being just as weak when they started. (You get stronger with experience, ie - every 5 minutes your alive, you get stronger. The effect wears off after the game, however.) Flag Defense tries to score kills on the enemy flag runners. If one is to get their flag, the only thing to do is kill him, which leaves the flag behind. Touching the flag returns it to your base. Offense is supposed to grab the enemy flag and touch it to your flag to score a capture, causing the enemy flag to return to its spot in the enemy base, starting anew. There are many different versions of Earth CTF, mainly physical, and non-phisycal. The physical version is played with anything you can get a shot off with. Water ballons, water guns, paintball guns, or just plain slapping people upside their head. The idea is same as all other CTF, get the flag and return it to your base. Offense and Defense are the same aw well, with the exception that the offense has to return it to their base, and not touch it to their flag. And that the defense has to physically take the flag back to its station, it doesnt go on its own. In the Non-physical version, you play on a very primitive computer. Their are many different versions, but the one we're focusing on is a Quake2 Modification of CTF. The basic idea is the same, with the flags and all, except its more like Lunarian CTF, in with the flags returning to base when you touch them, and touching their flag to yours to score a capture. The difference here is that players use primitive weapons to kill an enemy. Primitive Rocket Launchers, RalGuns, Lead shooting guns like a shotgun, machinegun, chaingun, Double Barrel Shotgun, a blaster, and other such weapons. (You dont physically play the game on the computer, as Earth Tech is so far beind Galactic that its pitiful. You control a character in a game enviroment, with anapparatus called a mouse, and one called a keyboard, primitive Control Rods ('joysticks'), and other such devices to move about your character. In Tangential CTF, you play in large arenas that bare resemblance to Quake2 Playing arena's. (see above). The only difference in Tangential CTF is that you physically punch the person in the jaw to score a kill. (Not really killing them, or hurtning them much either, as jawpads, helmets, and other life-saving devices are worn.) And to score a capture you have to beat the opposing teams captian over the head with his flag, and then yours. Those are the basic forms of Capture the Flag played throughout the galaxy. Take part in one one day, have fun. And in case your wondering, Tangential and Earth Physical CTF is usually played. [1] (Although the primitive "paintball" guns have been replaced by lasers that stun whomever for a minute or so) Have fun, and keep on hitchin! [1] - The Quake2 CTF modification is really existant, and the entire writing of this article sprang from too much playing of it. Your really shouyd try it one day, it really is great fun! %e *EOA*
