His parents were (and, in fact, still are) Hugh James Harmon, who shortly thereafter took a job at General Motors (which he still has at the time of writing) to support his family; and Margaret Jo Harmon, formerly Margaret Jo Kapla. He had, at the time, one sister, Elizabeth Anne Harmon, who was (and also still is) four years his elder. She is currently (at the time of this writing) working as a chemical engineer at Motorola in Austin, Texas, USA, Earth. He now also has a younger sister, Laura Marie Harmon, who is presently (again, at the time of this writing) in her sophomore year of college at Central Michigan University, where she plans to pursue a degree in something some day, although she is not 100% certain exactly what that something is (the current focus is history education, or at least was as recently as five minutes ago). Jon (as he prefers to be called) lived most of his life on the outskirts of Clio, Michigan, USA, Earth. Because he was so far on the outskirts of Clio (far enough to cross several European countries), he often refers to himself as a booneyman, meaning that he lived "in the boonies," or, as he puts it, Booneyland. His latest version of Booneyland can be found at "http://uts.cc.utexas.edu/~cueball/" on the World Wide Web, an amazing service which he has expounded the benefits of since he discovered it in 1994, whenever he could remember exactly what "expound" means. Besides spending unreasonable amounts of time on activities such as Project Galactic Guide, Jon tries to ensure that he never has free time, a practice which, coupled with his habit of procrastination, has caused him much stress throughout his life. To meet this goal, he began writing a weekly article for his campus' daily paper, the Michigan Tech Daily Bull, and soon became Editor in Chief (a move which totally destroyed his former concept of "free time"). When he finally "retired", he focused his attention on bringing the paper online, where it should still be available at http://www.hu.mtu.edu/~bull2/. He was also active with activities in his dorm such as broomball, a sport in which cold college students slide around on ice trying to cause a small rubber ball to enter the opposing team's net by smacking each other with brooms wrapped in duct tape. Jon also co-hosted an 80's radio show, "Reagan Radio", on his undergraduate college's radio station, WMTU. A description of the show can be found at http://uts.cc.utexas.edu/~wmtu/. In the little actual free time all this sort of activity leaves him, Jon enjoys constantly updating his web page, playing pool (he even took a class in it as an undergraduate), researching his family genealogy (his information, stretching back to the 1300s, can be found online at http://uts.cc.utexas.edu/~cueball/Harmon), playing cheesy games on computers (things along the lines of Tetris and Freecell), exploring the Web, ice skating and watching hockey, writing and reading fiction (JRR Tolkien and Orson Scott Card are two of his current favorite authors), playing Magic: The Gathering (he was roped in by a friend) and the standard role-playing games it is usually found with, learning Tae Kwon Do (in which he has only progressed to the yellow stripe or 9th gup phase, and hasn't made it back to since), playing in a community wind ensemble, singing karaoke, and, if he can get the money for a drum set, playing with and writing songs for his eternal band-to-be, the Naked Patriots. As far as his actual education goes, Jon is a biochemistry grad student pursuing his PhD at the University of Texas at Austin in Austin, Texas, USA, Earth, where he was also, at the time of this writing, a teaching assistant for freshman chemistry lab. He received his B.S. in B.S. (bachelor of sciences in biological sciences, despite what his tendency to exaggerate might suggest) at Michigan Technological University. He started out as a chemical engineering major, but soon discovered that it wasn't what he wanted to spend his entire life doing. Before making the trek to Tech, Jon spent his high school days at Clio High School, where he was thoroughly convinced that the American public education system _can_ still work. Jon can easily be reached via email at jharmon@mail.utexas.edu (for several years after the writing of this article, at least). He spends a lot of time, both work and free, sitting in front of a computer, so email is often replied to almost immediately. %e *EOA*
